It seems every year Christmas rolls around faster and faster.  And with it being so close to the end of the year it's time to start making sure you have everything in order for trading over the silly season has arrived.

According to a study done by the Entrepreneur, 20 to 40 percent of yearly sales for small and mid- sized retailers take place within the last two months of the year.  So how will you make the most of the holiday season shopping? The answer lies with strategic marketing.  This is the time of year to tailer your customer loyalty rewards with exclusive seasonal products and services, draw in new customers and get into the jolly spirit.  Below are some tips to help you get started.

Get into the Spirit

It’s difficult to resist the twinkling from a festive fairy light and its not only retailers who spend a good portion of the year anticipating the holiday madness to come.  Consumers also plan their own holiday season well in advance so getting your venue into the spirit with some festive cheer can help indulge your customers in the fuzzy feelings associated with the season.  Store props, seasonal banners, fairy lights and Christmas trees can help you cater to you target market.

Plan your promotions and sales ahead of time and take advantage of social media to get the word out.  Facebook is a great marketing tool that can help you reach an unlimited customer base with tailored content, and Instagram can offer customers an image rich over view of your business.  Or if you offer a Customer Loyalty Program, create special holiday discounts and market through an email service with time limited offers that encourage spending.

Managing your stock levels effectively is fundamental to your holiday season success.  Reviewing detailed reports on the previous years sales and stock levels is a crucial tool to understanding how you traded and how you can improve.  Maybe you sold out early, so order more for this year, maybe you had too much stock last year so tone it down this season.  Never underestimate the power of reporting through your POS system.
